The main question was how does survival of the fittest affect society today? It became apparent that survival of the fittest has become part of everyday life as evidenced by many examples. Not only is it in every aspect of a humans life, but humans are learning to control it. Darwin was the first to truly acknowledge this concept in his book, Origin of Species. This theory had a large amount of backlash with the church as it went against the teachings in the bible. Some scientists however, also believed in survival of the fittest and tried to teach it in school systems. This was met with court cases and things of the like. However, as time progressed, survival of the fittest has become welcomed into society. Humans use this theory in order to justify many things done nowadays. The most "fit" species is humans, and everything we do, allows us to survive on this planet longer. As shown in Coates' ideas of nature, survival of the fittest is really supported. This is a collective phenomena because all in all, humans are a part of nature.
